Performing Arts Package

The Performing Arts Package is designed for students who are serious about learning all dance styles as well as performing and competing at a competitive level. The students are trained in Classical Ballet (attending two hours a week if they choose to do their exam in Term 4), Tap, Jazz, Acrobatics, Strength and Flexibility as well as a two hour Performance class. During the Performance class the students are taught various dance routines including Jazz, Tap, Modern, Ballet and Contemporary as well as Musical Theatre. These routines will be performed in shows and performed at Eisteddfods throughout the year. This program is designed for students who are dedicated to the Performing Arts and are looking at studying dance in the future at school or as a career decision.

Performing Arts Package compulsory classes for students 7 years and over

1 Hour of Classical Ballet - 2 classes are required if you wish to do examinations

Classical ballet is the grounding for all styles of dance. It develops the correct body posture and alignment and turnout of the legs. The importance of classical training in a dancer cannot be stressed enough. Modern routines taught in the performance class will also benefit from this training.

1 Hour of Tap

Tap dancing has become very popular since the introduction of Dien Perry's Tap Dogs and musicals like Hot Shoe Shuffle. Tap is becoming quite funky and children will enjoy the different styles taught in this class. Tap technique will be greatly improved and more advanced steps will be able to be used in our routines. Eisteddfod routines are not taught in this class. This class is compulsory to learn the steps required for routines.

1 Hour of Jazz/Acrobatic Technique

This class has been introduced to allow the teachers time to teach the students the correct jazz technique required for difficult steps. Difficult steps such as turns, kicks and leaps and acrobatic skills will be concentrated on. There is a great difference between doing a step and doing it properly. We do not have enough time in a Showgroup lesson to do this as routines need to be learnt thoroughly. All routines will benefit from this class.

1 Hour of Strength and Flexibility

The key to a strong performer is a strong body. This class will concentrate entirely on upper and lower body strength as well as repeated stretches to maintain maximum flexibility. Each child will be given a strength and flex program to do at home in between class. Parents will be asked to support and supervise this program.

2 Hours of Performance Work

This will be an extended class and the only performance work your child will do. Students will be placed into the appropriate group decided by the staff and given a group name that will be your reference throughout the year. Students will no longer be doing 2 or 3 different showgroups throughout the week. Instead they will do one class with students of the same age learning a variety of routines such as jazz, hip-hop/funk, tap, ballet, modern and musical theatre and stage presentation. The students will benefit more by doing a variety of routines instead of 4 jazz routines. All routines will have the same students within the same age bracket.

Fee Structure

The Performing Arts Student Package will be $48.00 per week, based on the above compulsory classes. This must be paid in two instalments for the term. The first instalment of $240.00 will be due on enrolment and you will be invoiced prior to the second instalment. If the term is not a ten week term the fees will be adjusted accordingly on the second invoice. Refunds will not be given on missed classes but may be made up on a different day during that week only. Fees will not be carried over to a different week or used towards private tuition. An additional $8.00 per hour or $10.00 per 1.5 hours needs to be added if you choose to do more than the compulsory classes.
